Dear Colleague UNISON Survey on the working conditions within Call Centres I am writing to ask you to participate in a survey that UNISON is conducting on the working conditions faced by UNISON members working in Call Centres. UNISON wants to ensure that call centre staff enjoy good working conditions and experience good employment practices. However we are aware that some members have experienced problems such as increases in levels of stress, lack of access to toilet breaks and poor working arrangements. We know that many call centres are good places to work but that there is always room for improvement. However, we also know of some call centres with unsatisfactory employment practices and conditions. For these reasons we are carrying out this survey to help us to identify the health and safety concerns of our members. We want to identify good working conditions as well as bad. To help us identify the realities of working in a call centre in 2011/12 UNISON has commissioned Portsmouth University to carry out a survey. We are determined to help raise standards for our members working in call centres. We will use the survey results to identify areas for improvement and we will aim to learn from best practice. Where we find cause for concern we will raise the issue with your employer. We will also be producing new guidance for safety representatives and members working in call centres and we will produce a check list for stewards to help them to negotiate policies and practices that promote the best employment standards for call centres. I can assure you that all personal details will remain confidential. We are keen to obtain as wide a response as possible and I would be grateful if you would spare the time to complete the survey using the following link. To access this link please hold down your control key and then click on the link. http://www.pbs.port.ac.uk/Survey/index.php?sid=65343&lang=en Please do so by 18th November 2011 If you experience any problems completing the survey please ring Mary Onafalujo on 02071215228 who will try to help. With thanks. Yours sincerely, Dave Prentis General Secretary
